Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects communication, behavior, sensory processing, and social interaction. It is referred to as a “spectrum” because each child’s strengths, challenges, and support needs are unique.
At Heal Pediatrics, we recognize that autism is not a single condition with a single cause. Rather, it reflects complex interactions between genetics, neurological development, immune function, metabolism, and environmental influences. Our role is not to change who a child is, but to support their health, regulation, and overall quality of life.
Children on the autism spectrum may experience:
Each child’s presentation is different, and needs may evolve over time.
At Heal Pediatrics, well-child visits play a key role in early identification and ongoing developmental screening. Rather than relying on a single screening moment, we take a longitudinal approach—observing how a child grows, communicates, regulates, and interacts across multiple visits.
During well-child care, we intentionally screen and observe:
Because these visits occur regularly throughout infancy, toddlerhood, and early childhood, they allow us to identify subtle patterns or early signs that may benefit from further support. When questions arise, we partner closely with families to determine appropriate next steps, which may include additional screening, supportive interventions, or referral for formal developmental evaluation when indicated.
Our goal is not to label prematurely, but to support early understanding, guidance, and whole-child care.
For children diagnosed with or showing signs of autism, we take a root-cause, whole-child approach. Rather than focusing solely on behavioral symptoms, we aim to understand how underlying biological factors may be influencing regulation, comfort, and day-to-day functioning.
Evaluation may include:
Care is individualized and may focus on supporting:
All recommendations are designed to complement—not replace—developmental, educational, and therapeutic services already in place. Our goal is not to “treat” autism itself, but to identify and address underlying stressors that may be impacting a child’s ability to feel regulated, comfortable, and supported.
